Today in 1965, two female Beatles fans hired a helicopter to fly over the house and jumped from the helicopter into the swimming pool.
The Beatles’ were resting after taking LSD the day before with The Byrds and Peter Fonda. This third rest day was halfway through a five-day break in their 1965 tour of North America. They were staying in a mansion owned by actress Zsa Zsa Gabor at 2850 Benedict Canyon, Beverly Hills. The Beatles had breakfast in the early afternoon and spent much of the rest of the day sunbathing and swimming in the pool.
Brian Epstein complained to the Los Angeles police, and the area became a no-fly zone.

Gene Simmons, bassist and singer with the American hard rock band Kiss, celebrates his 71st birthday today. Kiss’ 1976 US No 11 album Rock and Roll spent over 26 weeks on the chart. Simmons is also known by his stage persona as The Demon.
