Born on July 17, 1945, Eric McCredie bassist from Scottish pop group Middle of the Road, who had the 1971 UK No.1 single ‘Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep’, which is one of only a few singles to have sold over 10 million physical copies. He passed on 6 October 2007.
Middle of the Road enjoyed success across Europe and Latin America from the 1970s, with the sound of early euro-pop. Their distinctive harmonies and lead vocal from Sally Carr gave them four singles selling over one million copies each.
Singles ‘Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep’,’Sacramento’, ‘Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum’ and ‘Soley Soley’ all achieved gold disc status. By early 1972, the group had sold over five million records.
